MEET YOUR COACH

Meet Baasansuren Tsogtbaatar

I’m a female horse archer, and I have been learning and teaching horse archery since 2020.

Before that, I spent eight years guiding and leading tours throughout Mongolia. I know the country, its people and its landscapes well, and I know what travelers are looking for. When I became a full-time mother, I took up horseback archery. I fell in love with it and wanted to share this beautiful culture and sport with the world.

My tourism background made working with foreign students a natural step, and it is the work I love most. In 2023 we began teaching international guests with a program I designed for people who have never ridden a horse or shot a bow. Students have come to us from Hong Kong, Australia, Indonesia, the United States, Germany, France, Canada, Chile and Brazil. Many arrived as complete beginners and left riding and shooting with confidence.

My work has also reached a wider audience. I was filmed by National Geographic for Superskilled (Season 2, Episode 5), alongside the adventurer Eva zu Beck. The episode is available on YouTube.

A Mother and Son on Horseback

Horse archery is also a family story. My son, Manlaibaatar, is 7 years old, and he has been training since before most children start school.

Age 3: He started with a bow in his hand, training on foot. Age 5: He began riding and shooting on horseback. Today: At just 7, he is already one of the greatest young archers in Mongolia, with several medals from national ranking competitions.

Watching him train and compete shows me what this sport can give a child: discipline, courage, balance and a deep connection to Mongolian heritage. He is the reason I am so passionate about bringing young archers into the sport, and he is proof of what is possible when children learn it early and are taught the right way.
